Privilege

[edit]

Wikipedia needs to have correct spelling throughout. While there are undoubtedly national differences, I have been unabvle to find the spelling "priviledge" in any dictionary. "Privilege", on the other hand, is to found, among others, in Chambers, my primary source, and at the dictionary.com site. Accordngly, I am working through Wikipedia making this change to spelling.

Welcome message

[edit]

Hello Ian, welcome to Wikipedia. You might like to start by reading the tutorial and introducing yourself at the new users page. If you have any questions, you can ask at the help desk or on my talk page. Two useful tips are that you can sign your name using four tildes (~~~~) and you can preview your changes before you save using the show preview button. You can regularly find new tips on the Community Portal. I look forward to reading your great articles and I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian. :) Angela. 16:09, Aug 28, 2004 (UTC)

Bislama Babel template

[edit]

As the only other Wikipedian with a Bislama template on their user page, I thought I'd let you know that the Babel template for Bislama (bi) got changed without any warning to bis. At first I thought my page was vandalized, but it was a change upstream in the user-bi template. --jonsafari 19:40, 28 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hey there,

I noticed your note on User:Mistress Selina Kyle's talk page. As per your suggestion (which I find very reasonable), I've listed Template:User bi for moving and allowing the template for Bislama to occupy User bi. Please see Template talk:User bi for discussion. Spread the word around for those who have a userbox for Bislama as well. I would like to see the userboxes follow ISO 639-1 language codes when available, as I'm sure you would as well. Thanks! —BorgHunter (talk) 01:03, 31 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I noticed you voted to on the abovementioned article. Initialy I wanted to keep it, but when I compared it to Nigritude ultramarine and Seraphim proudleduck it seems obvious that all theese articles are repating the same info:

  • It's a search contest
  • It has begin/end dates
  • It has a prize
  • It uses a unique phrase that is not used before

I'd like to urge you to change your vote to Redirect to SEO Contest where I have created already made a copy of the article. This way they dont have "their own article" but they are mentioned in the encyclopedia. Seems like a compromise to me. Right now w/ all the Delete, Keep, And Redirect votes it will be hard to reach a compromise. This user has left wikipedia 22:14, 21 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Efate

[edit]

Hello Ian, Re: Efate -- We agree on that point. I don't think this has to be put to votes - if only because the presence or absence of accents on Efate (and Emae) is a fact rather than an opinion… Well, at least this is my opinion ;-) As for the technicalities of Redirection, I don't know; maybe we should give it a try; or simply rename "Éfaté" into "Efate" and see what happens. I'll leave this to you, right now it's bedtime on this side of the (wiki)world. (By the way, my first son was also born June 30th) Womtelo 23:05, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Ciaran Gultnieks, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable (see the guidelines for notability here). If you can indicate why the subject of this article is notable, you may contest the tagging. To do this, please write {{hangon}} on the top of the page and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself.

Please read the criteria for speedy deletion (specifically, articles #7) and our general biography criteria. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. --Lijnema 14:17, 15 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

AfD nomination of Wincest

[edit]

An editor has nominated Wincest, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not"). Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Wincest and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. AFD Vandal comments

[edit]

I must infer that your comments on AfD regarding Cassandra Clare are maliciously intended, since you deny that she is a New York Times best-selling author. VivianDarkbloom 19:42, 26 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A previous commentor, VivianDarkbloom , provided the link you can click on to see that she at one time had the number 8 book among youth "chapter books." [1] . The confusion may be due to it being in the past (but notability is not temporary) and it being a children's book. Regards. Edison 19:24, 27 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for supplying the link. I only see notability in Hardcover or Paperback: to be notable for Children's Chapter Books is, IMHO, something quite different. Based on that chart alone, I would only be exploring Meyer and Zusak for notability. Ringbark 19:50, 27 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bislama country names

[edit]

Hello Ian. I have minimal knowledge of Bislama, but claim on my talk page to an elementary ability with the language. This is really over-optimistic. Thirty or forty years ago, I spent a few months in what was then the New Hebrides doing biology in some rather remote areas. During that time I learned enough to survive, but have since forgotten most of it. In an effort to be helpful, though, I recently scanned over the handful of pages in that version of Wikipedia to see if I could lend assistance anywhere. The "Unaeted Neisen" article caught my eye. Perhaps, I thought, it would be useful to add a list of the member nations. I began that task when I realized that a list of countries written in English might not be at all appropriate. Should one say "France" or "République Française"? Is it "Bosnia and Herzegovina", "Bosnie-Herzégovine", or even "Bosnia mo Herzegovina"? Any advice? Perhaps this is not really an appropriate task for me. (I suspect that's the right answer.) Tim Ross·talk 17:42, 22 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:GuillotineCover.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:GuillotineCover.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 22:42, 13 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:TheSmirks.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:TheSmirks.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Ricky81682 (talk) 01:11, 17 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Unreferenced BLPs

[edit]

Hello Ringbark! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 3 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring these articles up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 3 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:

The article Guillotine (compilation album) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable sampler

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. —Justin (koavf)TCM08:47, 3 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
